Black Man Says Alabama Cops Ran Wild

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. (CN) - Fairfield police officers arrested and beat an innocent man and pounded his head against a concrete floor, asking, "Where is the other nigger?" because some of the numbers on his license plate matched the plate of a truck they were looking for, the man claims in Federal Court.

Corey Richardson claims that after he was arrested and beaten, he was forced to sign a statement that he had not been mistreated. He also sued the City of Birmingham, whose officers arrested him and turned him over to Fairfield, which was looking for the person who shot and killed its police Officer Mary Smith, on Oct. 23, 2006.

He demands punitive damages for assault and battery, wantonness and civil rights violations. He is represented in Jefferson County Court by Julia Cochrun.
