Black Cops Say Houston PD Discriminates

HOUSTON (CN) - The City of Houston discriminates against black policemen who have pseudofolliculitis barbae, a skin condition that makes shaving painful, by not allowing them to wear uniforms or go on patrol with beards, four black officers claim in Federal Court. The pro se plaintiffs claim that though the department's grooming policy also addresses sideburns, mustaches, pony tails, earrings and tattoos, no white officers have been disciplined for infractions, and the Police Department is "only enforcing the rule as it affects black officers."
