BK Bridge Shutterbug Must Surrender Passport

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (CN) - A French man accused of scaling the Brooklyn Bridge to take photos may face jail time, prosecutors vowed.

"This defendant's foolish and unlawful conduct is a breach of security and a danger to himself and others," Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson said. "It will not be tolerated. This is not a game and we will be seeking jail time."

Police arrested Yonathan Souid, 23, on Sunday for allegedly climbing the bridge near Cadman Plaza West in Brooklyn to take photos.

Souid was arraigned Monday in Brooklyn Criminal Court on charges of second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and for violating a law that prohibits "climbing, jumping or suspending oneself from structures."

According to the criminal complaint against him, Souid was spotted "on top of a metal beam of the Brooklyn Bridge which was directly above vehicular traffic."

His bail was set at a $15,000 bond, or $7,000 cash.

Souid had to surrender his passport, and must return to court Dec. 9.
