Birdman Accused of Dissing Worker on Wages

(CN) - A former employee of Cash Money Records founder Birdman claims in court that the rap mogul failed to pay him for the overtime he was routinely asked to work.

Javier Nuno doesn't say exactly what he did for Birdman, whose given name is Bryan Williams, in a complaint filed Tuesday in the Miami Federal Court. However claims to be owned more than $354,000 for work overtime worked between September 2012 and February 2015.

Birdman founded Cash Money Records with his brother Ronald "Slim" Williams in 1991, and its roster of artists included Nicki Minaj and Drake. Williams got his start as one half of the rap group Big Tymers, which was formed in New Orleans and later collaborated frequently with Lil' Wayne, among others.

"Defendant did not honor paying Plaintiff the compensation agreed upon at the beginning of Plaintiff's employment," Nuno says.

He claims Birdman knew his obligations under the Fair Labor Standards Act and simply decided to disregard them.

Nuno further claims that "To the extent that Defendant never posted any notice as required by the Fair Labor Standards Act and Federal Law, to inform employees of their federal rights to overtime and minimum wage payments, the statute of limitations for Plaintiff's FLSA claims is equitably tolled."

The amount Nuno is seeking includes both the actual wages he says he's owed and liquidated damages.

He is represented by Anthony Georges-Pierre of Remer and Georges-Pierre from Miami, Fla.

Bryan Williams could not be reached for comment.
