Big Tobacco Gives the Stuff Away

WASHINGTON (CN) - The five biggest U.S. tobacco companies spent $12.5 billion pushing cigarettes in 2006, the FTC said in a report it released Wednesday. Big Tobacco "sold or gave away" 350.6 billion cigarettes in the United States in 2006, the FTC said - down 4 billion from the previous year - but the industry gave away 7.2 billion cigarettes in 2006 - 140 percent more than in 2005.
