DALLAS (CN) - News chain Belo Corp. said it has settled claims from a circulation scandal at The Dallas Morning News. Three federal lawsuits filed claimed in 2004 that Belo inflated its circulation numbers to charge higher ad rates.
Belo owned the Morning News at the time. The company has since spun off its newspaper holdings, including the Morning News, into A.H. Belo Corp.
Belo did not reveal terms of the settlement, though it said it was "favorable, without payment of any settlement amount that is material to either company or their affiliates."
Belo said the settlement came after the 5th Circuit denied class certification for the plaintiffs in August.
Belo owns 20 TV stations in 15 markets nationwide, and seven regional cable networks.
A.H. Belo Corp., whose spinoff was completed in 2008, owns The Dallas Morning News, The Denton Record-Chronicle, The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, Calif., and The Providence Journal in Providence, R.I.
