MANHATTAN (CN) - FreemantleMedia claims Global Vision Entertainment owes it $331,000 for a license to distribute "American Idol" as DVDs. Freemantle claims the deal was for $350,000, payable in 12 equal installments, and Global Vision made the first payment and that's all.
Freemantle claims Global Vision continues to sell the DVDs, illicitly profiting through use of the "American Idol" trademarks, though Freemantle terminated its license for nonpayment. The deal at issue covered seasons 5 and 6.
The first payment of $29,166.63 was due on March 15, 2008, and the rest due on the 15th of the succeeding months, according to the complaint. Freemantle says Global Vision paid only the first one.
Freemantle also sued Global Vision's president, John Velasco Mills. It seeks damages for trademark infringement, unfair competition, deception, and breach of contract.
Freemantle is represented in Federal Court by Thomas Guida with Loeb & Loeb.
