Beauty Queen Prejean Stiffed Us, PR Firm Says

     (CN) – A “Christian-focused” public relations firm that provided former Miss California Carrie Prejean with “interview tips and damage control” during a 2009 media controversy says the ousted beauty queen owes it $64,000.




     Larry Ross Communications, of Denton County, Texas, sued Prejean in state district court, claiming she hasn’t paid for the “hundreds of hours” the firm spent fielding media calls and performing other public relations work.
     Prejean ignited a nationwide media flare-up when she came out against gay marriage while responding to a judge’s question during the Miss USA 2009 pageant. She also appeared in a television advertisement opposing same-sex marriage. Prejean was later stripped of her Miss California title for breach of contract.
     Throughout the controversy, Larry Ross Communications represented Prejean, the company says, including providing “crucial information” to her attorney when Prejean sued the Miss California Pageant.
     The company’s Web site says it “assists Christian-focused organizations, associations, ministries and churches in telling their stories through the Christian and secular media in the context of traditional news values.”
     The company says it gave Prejean “intensive interview training,” “brokered a conference call with Donald Trump … and confirmed a joint press conference with Trump and the pageant officials.” The company says it even traveled with Prejean to the news conference.
     The company is represented by Gary Blanscet of Addison, Texas.
