Bear Viewing Likely to Resume in the Kodiak

WASHINGTON (CN) - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plans to open the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge O'Malley River area to bear-viewing.

The agency also plans to prohibit snowmachine use on approximately 4,972 acres of brown-bear denning habitat in the Den Mountain area, and prohibit camping within one-quarter mile of public use cabins and federal and state administrative facilities on the Kodiak.

The regulations would codify decisions from the agency's 2007 Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge Revised Comprehensive Conservation Plan.
