Banks Ordered to Disburse U.S.S. Cole Funds

NEW YORK (CN) - A federal judge ordered ABN-Amro Bank and other U.S. banks holding Sudanese money to begin turning over funds on Tuesday to the relatives of 17 sailors who died in the 2000 terrorist bombing of the U.S.S. Cole in Yemen. U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein issued the order to enforce a default judgment of more than $7 million, plus interest, against the Republic of Sudan, which allegedly provided material support to al-Qaida, the terrorist group that carried out the attack.
