WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CN) - Rapper DMX (Earl Simmons) has filed for bankruptcy, listing less than $50,000 in assets and $1 million to $10 million in debts - $1.3 million of it to "Child Support Enforcement."
Simmons, 42, released his first best-selling album in 1999. He also has appeared in several films. He's sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, making him one of the best-selling hip-hop artists ever.
He has been charged repeatedly with crimes and misdemeanors, most of them involving drinking, drugging and driving, and has served at least six short stints in jail, according to published reports.
His bankruptcy petition includes debts of $453,702 to Compass Bank; $21,415 to American Honda Finance; a disputed debt of $200,590 to Amusing Diversions Inc.; $1,245,759 to Child Support Enforcement; another $84,410 to Child Support Enforcement; $90,000 to Irina Priporina; another $62,602 to Irina Priporina; and $93,209 to Sergey Priporin.
