Bank Manager Admits She Swiped $100,000

LAREDO, Texas (CN) - A former Compass Bank branch manager pleaded guilty to embezzling $101,845 from a customer's CD accounts, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Patricia Garcia Munoz, 50, pleaded guilty on Friday to embezzlement and misapplication of funds from BBVA Compass Bank, prosecutors said in a statement.

"She admitted she stole the money and that she chose that particular customer's accounts because he never physically visited the bank and, therefore, she thought he would not discover the theft," according to the U.S. attorney's statement.

Garcia agreed to pay restitution, prosecutors said.

She is free on bond until her sentencing hearing, which has not yet been set.

She faces up to 30 years in federal prison and $1 million in fines.
