BALTIMORE (CN) - Baltimore sued five engineering and construction firms, claiming their negligence caused the partial collapse of the Fells Point Promenade and Bulkhead in Baltimore Harbor, which continues to endanger the public. The city says the defendants refused to repair or replace it.
The city sued STV Inc., Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse, SRH Jackson's Wharf, Fells Point Development, and DW Kozera in Federal Court.
The city says the problem was caused because the structure and its underlying fill settled into the mud at the bottom of the harbor, and continues to sink into it, pulling the promenade away from the bulkhead, endangering pedestrians. The sinking is so bad the city had to fence off the area this month, according to the complaint. The work was done on a $3.25 million city contract.
