Ballot Drop Boxes

The Ohio Secretary of State cannot enforce a directive that prohibits county boards of elections from installing ballot drop boxes at locations other than the board’s office, a federal court in the state ruled, finding an injunction necessary to “vindicate a vital constitutional right.”

CLEVELAND — The Ohio Secretary of State cannot enforce a directive that prohibits county boards of elections from installing ballot drop boxes at locations other than the board’s office, a federal court in the state ruled, finding an injunction necessary to “vindicate a vital constitutional right.”

The secretary also cannot prohibit a board from “deploying its staff for off-site ballot delivery,” the court ruled.
