(CN) — Marking the birth of composer Johann Sebastian Bach on this day in 1685, Google on Thursday unveiled its first Doodle powered by artificial intelligence.
The animation begins with an introduction to the German composer, then guides users into composing their own two-measure melody.
Bach's chorales are typified by the four voices that each carry a melodic line, and Google says AI allows its Doodle to harmonize users’ custom melodies “into Bach's signature music style.”
The machine-learning model that led up to the Google Doodle was trained first on 306 of Bach's chorale harmonizations. Another team of Google designers worked to allow machine learning to occur within the web browser instead of on its servers.
The Doodle offers prompts to users who stumble in their interface with the animated graphic.
