UNION, Mo. (CN) - A woman who kidnapped a newborn baby after slashing its mother's throat has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. The case made national headlines in September 2006 when Shannon Torrez stabbed and tied up Stephenie Ochsenbine, tied up her 1-year-old son and kidnapped Ochsenbine's week-old daughter, whom police rescued five days later.
Ochsenbine and the children are alive and well.
Torrez, 38, received the sentence recommended by prosecutors in Franklin County Court.
