Baby-Selling Woman|Just Can’t Do Right

SAN DIEGO (CN) - A woman on supervised release for a baby-selling ring was sent back to jail this week for running an illegal puppy mill out of her Las Vegas home.

Fifty-six-year-old Carla Chambers was convicted in 2012 of her role in a baby-selling ring, the U.S. Attorney's office said.

On Tuesday, the judge who sent her to jail the first time sent her back for another 10 months, calling her acts "abhorrent" and saying she "led a life with utter disrespect for the law."

U.S. District Judge Anthony Battaglia on Tuesday sent Chambers back to jail for 13 violations of her conditions of release, most of them from the puppy mill she ran out of her home.

Police were called when several people reported that the puppies they bought from Chambers "died shortly after they were purchased of either parvo, giardia, or both," the U.S. attorney said.

In the baby-selling racket, Chambers and others sent women overseas to be artificially inseminated, "to create an inventory of unborn babies that they would sell for over $100,000 each," according to the U.S. attorney's statement.

Judge Battaglia on Tuesday also ordered Chambers to pay the rest of the $24,000 in restitution he ordered in the baby-selling case, and to another 26 months of supervised release.

She was taken from jail back to court.
