Autonomous Regions of Spain

The European Court of Justice upheld the authority Thursday of three autonomous Spanish communities — Catalonia, Asturias and Aragon — to impose regional taxes on large retail establishments.

LUXEMBOURG - The European Court of Justice upheld the authority Thursday of three autonomous Spanish communities — Catalonia, Asturias and Aragon — to impose regional taxes on large retail establishments. With regard to Catalonia, however, the court found that the region was overly selective in exempting collective retail establishments that would otherwise be taxed because of their size.
