Author Says Article Bylines Should Be His

EUGENE, Ore. (CN) - A marketing manager for Ticketmaster removed an author's byline from his copyrighted how-to article and distributed it to her colleagues and an acquaintance who tried to pass it off as his own work, Steven McNamara claims in Federal Court.

McNamara, an author and creative director, claims Jennifer Rotert infringed on his copyrighted marketing article, "Top 10 Ways to Get More Sales From Your Direct Marketing Program," which he wrote for the BuildingBrands newsletter.

Rotert gave the article to her Ticketmaster team and to Travis Luther, owner of Luther Media. Rotert and Luther both claimed to have written the article, McNamara says. Luther allegedly posted the piece on his and other "author Web sites" in order to build his reputation, increase traffic and make more money.

McNamara claims the defendants' violation of his copyright caused search engines to index his article under incorrect bylines.

The plaintiff seeks actual damages and an order requiring the defendants to destroy all infringing articles. He is representing himself.
