Australian Doctors Filed First On Patent For Papillomavirus Vaccine

WASHINGTON (CN) - Two Australian doctors applied to patent a vaccine for the human papillomavirus before doctors at an American university, the Federal Circuit ruled.

Drs. Ian Frazer and Jian Zhou from the University of Queensland claimed that in 1991 they prepared "virus-like particles" that mimicked the papillomavirus but lacked its ability to cause cervical cancer and other diseases.
