MILWAUKEE (CN) - First Capital Surety & Trust's then-President Frank Maguire fired the company's general counsel for objecting to Maguire's orders not to hire black people, Michael Furney claims in Federal Court.
Furney says the company's director of operations told him that Maguire had ordered her not to hire black people. When Maguire found out that the director of operations had interviewed a black woman, Maguire allegedly told her, "I thought I told you not to hire anyone you need a flashbulb to take a picture of."
Furney says he told the director of operations to ignore Maguire's order, which he reported to an outside director.
The outside directors hired a law office to investigate, and it confirmed the illegal racial discrimination, Furney says. He says Maguire resigned as president, but remained a company director, and fired him in retaliation.
Furney demands an injunction and lost wages. He is represented by Jay Urban.
