Attorney Sanctioned |for Neglecting 9 Cases

(CN) - The 2nd Circuit publicly reprimanded New York attorney Peter Koenig for neglecting nine cases, including failing to notify one client that her case had been dismissed, causing her to be seized by immigration authorities.

The Manhattan-based circuit adopted the grievance committee's recommendation to reprimand Koenig and ban him from being admitted to the 2nd Circuit's bar or practicing law before the court "in any future cases."

The fact that Koenig is not a member of the court's bar "does not shield him from this court's disciplinary authority," the 2nd Circuit ruled.

However, it stressed that Koenig's sanction was not the same as "the more severe sanction of disbarment."

"We do not deem the sanction we now impose, barring Koenig from admission to this Court's bar, to be equivalent to the disbarment of an attorney who is already a member of this Court's bar," the court wrote.
