AT&T Settles for $21 Million

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (CN) – AT&T will pay $21 million to settle class action claims of improper refunds in Madison County Court. Big Sky Excavating sued in 2003 on behalf of small businesses, claiming that AT&T and Ameritech gave improper refunds to some companies they overcharged.     State law in 2001 required AT&T to refund overcharges to business customers with multiple lines. AT&T was to pay $90 million in refunds, the Madison County Record reported.     Attorneys will receive $7 million from the settlement.      Circuit Judge Daniel Stack signed off on the preliminary agreement and a final settlement hearing is set for July 12.
