Atlanta Braves Sue Insurer Over Pitcher

ATLANTA (CN) - Former Atlanta Braves pitcher Michael Hampton's disability entitles the team to more than $4.82 million from Hartford Life Insurance, the ballclub claims in Federal Court.

Hampton was disabled during the 2008 season, and Hartford failed to pay the "daily benefits" due under the policy, the team says. Hampton's best year was 1999, when he went 22-4 for the Astros. He was National League Championship Series MVP with the Mets in 2000.

The Braves are represented by Caroline Spangenberg with Kilpatrick Stockton.
