WASHINGTON (CN) - Houston Astros shortstop and former American League MVP Miguel Tejada pleaded guilty to lying to a congressional committee investigating steroid use in Major League Baseball.
Tejada told the committee in August 2005 that he had never used performance-enhancing drugs nor had he any knowledge of others players' use of them. But in Federal Court Wednesday, Tejada told U.S. District Judge Alan Kay that he had withheld information about a teammate's use of steroids and Human Growth Hormone.
Tejada, the 2002 AL MVP, will be sentenced on March 26. He faces a sentence likely to range from probation to 6 months in prison.
