Assault Weapons

The Firearms Policy Coalition, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and the California Department of Justice agreed to a settlement in a due process lawsuit challenging the state’s implementation and enforcement of assault weapons laws. Under the agreement, the DOJ will reopen assault weapon registrations and abstain from prosecuting people for unregistered assault weapons for the duration of the notice and registration period.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Firearms Policy Coalition, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and the California Department of Justice agreed to a settlement in a due process lawsuit challenging the state’s implementation and enforcement of assault weapons laws. Under the agreement, the DOJ will reopen assault weapon registrations and abstain from prosecuting people for unregistered assault weapons for the duration of the notice and registration period.
