BRUSSELS — Citing the continued repression of Syrian civilians, the European Union agreed Friday to extend for another year sanctions against the regime of President Bashar Assad.
Separate from an ongoing oil embargo on Syria and a ban of equipment that could be used in a civilian crackdown, the sanctions keep travel bans and asset freezes in place against 270 people and 70 entities until June 1, 2020.
