Artist’s Estate Sues Sotheby’s

MANHATTAN (CN) - The Estate of Martin Ramirez, who died intestate in a California mental institution in 1963, sued Sotheby's and Maureen Hammond in Federal Court, demanding 17 allegedly stolen or converted artworks. Hammond, a retired therapist, allegedly took the artworks and kept them for more than 40 years, then consigned them to Sotheby's after Ramirez became posthumously famous.

The estate is represented by Eric Lieberman with Robinowitz, Boudin & Standard.
