SANTA FE, N.M. — Evidence obtained during the arrest of a suspected drunken driver by a volunteer reserve deputy must be suppressed, the New Mexico Supreme Court ruled, because only commissioned, salaried officers have authority to make arrests for violations of the Motor Vehicle Code or other misdemeanor motor vehicle-related laws.
