Arkansas court blocks social media regulations

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The internet trade association NetChoice won its motion for a preliminary injunction against Arkansas, which was set to begin enforcing its Social Media Safety Act on April 21, 2026. The law aims to regulate children’s access to social media apps and websites by lowering the applicable age of majority from 18 to 16, prohibiting platforms from engaging in “addictive” practices, requiring certain default settings for minors and directing platforms to create an online dashboard for parents. Among other issues, the addictive practices provision suffers from “objectionable vagueness” and threatens “delicate and vulnerable” First Amendment freedoms by way of “improper application.”
