Anti-Lock Brakes Remain Standard on Big Rigs

WASHINGTON (CN) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has denied a petition for rulemaking that would have allowed driver's of tractor-trailers to disable their antilock braking systems on trucks equipped with air brake systems.

The petitioner claimed that the system increases the risk of fatal crashes, but the agency said the evidence presented by the petitioner proves that the exact opposite is true.
