Anti-Abortion Pharmacist Sues Target

ST. LOUIS (CN) - A pharmacist says Target fired her for refusing to dispense the morning-after contraceptive pill. Heather Williams says to do so would have violated her religious beliefs.

In her federal complaint, Williams says that when Target hired her as a pharmacist in 2000, it assured her she would not have to dispense such drugs. But she says the company changed its stance in November 2005. She claims Target fired her on Dec. 21, 2005 because of her religious beliefs, though she still worked as a pharmacist that Christmas eve at Target's request. Williams says Target violated Title VII protections. She is represented by Francis Manion of New Hope, Ky.
