OKLAHOMA CITY (CN) - A mobile crane tipped over and crushed a man to death as he sat in his car in a church parking lot, the man's widow and son claim in Oklahoma County Court.
Winfred Stafford, 79, was crushed to death on July 24 as he sat in his car in the parking lot of South Pointe Church, his widow and son say.
His wife was injured, and apparently was saved from death because she had moved to the back seat to get out of the sun, according to press reports.
The fatal accident came as the Staffords were watching the crane try to put the steeple onto the church, culminating a church construction project, Oklahoma newspapers reported.
The Staffords sued Barnhart Crane & Rigging Co., its employee-crane operator Lavar Dwan Swindall, and The Manitowoc Co., which made the mobile crane.
The Staffords are represented by David Edmonds.
