Another Baby Sleeper Linked to Roll-Over Deaths Recalled

Just two weeks after Fisher-Price recalled infant sleepers that were linked to the deaths of more than 30 babies in the last decade, Kids II announced a recall Friday of its similar product.

(CN) - Just two weeks after Fisher-Price recalled infant sleepers that were linked to the deaths of more than 30 babies in the last decade, Kids II announced a recall Friday of its similar product.

Kids II said it will recall nearly 700,000 rocking sleepers that have been linked to at least five infant deaths since 2012. The sleepers sold for between $40 and $80 at Walmart, Target and other retailers nationwide.

In both the Rock 'n Play product by Fisher-Price and the Kids II sleeper, infants died after rolling over from their backs to their stomachs or sides while unrestrained.

Any parents who bought a sleeper should no longer use them with their children, Kids II Inc. and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Friday. Consumers can get a refund or voucher.

More details are on the CPSC’s website.

Friday also marked the first lawsuit against Fisher-Price and parent company Mattel over the recall. Vying to represent a class of consumers who bought a Rock 'n Play dating back to 2015, lead plaintiff Linda Black of Palestine, Texas, says she never would have bought the sleeper had she known about its risk to infants.

Black filed her federal class action in Los Angeles based on Mattel’s headquarters in El Segundo.
