Ammon Bundy Gets Continuance in Nevada

LAS VEGAS (CN) — Because he's tied up defending himself in Oregon, Ammon Bundy will get an extra week to file pretrial motions in the federal case against him in Nevada.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Peggy Leen on Friday granted Bundy's unopposed motion to extend until Oct. 10 the deadline for filing Rule 12 pretrial motions. Federal prosecutors have until Nov. 9 to file replies, and Bundy until Nov. 16 to reply to those.

Bundy said in his motion that he had to prepared to testify in the Oregon trial, and his attorney Daniel Hill, with Wolf, Rifkin, Shapiro, Schulman & Rabkin, had no opportunity to discuss updates in discovery or pretrial motions with him for the past month.

Hill filed the motion for continuation on Thursday.

Bundy is among 19 charged with up to 16 felonies each for their roles in the April 2014 standoff with the Bureau of Land Management and federal and local law enforcement near his family's ranch in Bunkerville, Nev.

Two of those defendants, Gerald A. DeLemus, 61, of Rochester, N.H., and Blaine Cooper, 36, of Humboldt, Ariz., pleaded guilty to reduced felony charges and are to be sentenced on Dec. 1.

Bundy is on trial in Oregon for felony charges for his role in the deadly January takeover of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, during which one of Bundy's supporters was killed during Bundy's arrest.
