Amazon, Hachette, Said|to Have Cut a Deal

(CN) - Amazon.com and Hachette Book Group said Thursday that they agreed to settle a dispute about online sales, apparently ending, for a few years anyway, a struggle that caught worldwide attention.

Amazon, which punished Hachette by delaying delivery of its books, said it will stop doing that.

More than 1,500 authors, including bestsellers, slammed Amazon for its hardball tactics.

Hachette, the Western world's fourth-largest publisher, said it would be allowed to set its own prices for its ebooks.

Other details of the agreement remained murky.

The Authors Guild asked the Department of Justice to investigate Amazon for antitrust violations.
