Almond trees bloom in mid- to late February in Central California, and it’s a big deal — pollinating them is the largest managed pollination event in the world. Some 1.4 million beehives come to the Central Valley for the event, and if the bees’ work is successful, the Golden State’s almond trees will produce over 2 billion pounds of nuts.
