MANHATTAN (CN) - A Russian man was extradited to the United States to face a nine-count cybercrime indictment.
Vladimir Zdorovenin and his son Kirill Zdorovenin were indicted under seal in 2007. They were charged with conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud, computer fraud, aggravated identity theft, and securities fraud. Vladimir was arrested in Switzerland in March 2011 and was extradited to the United States on Monday. His son remains at large, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement.
Prosecutors said the Zdorovenins "engaged in serial cybercrimes in Russia that targeted Americans, and wrought havoc with their personal and financial information, using it to make phony purchases and to manipulate stock prices."
Among the ways they did it was "through the use of computer programs that were surreptitiously installed on victims' computers and that recorded the information as it was entered," prosecutors said in the statement.
Vladimir, 54, of Moscow, faces up to 142 years in prison if convicted of all charges.
