WASHINGTON (CN) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plan to remove "Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection" from the definition of "communicable disease of public health significance," in its regulations, which would mean that aliens would no longer be inadmissible into the U.S. solely because they are infected with HIV.
Aliens also would no longer undergo HIV testing as part of the routine medical examination at Immigration.
The CDC also may remove other diseases, including sexually transmitted diseases, from the definition of "communicable disease of public health significance" through future rulemaking after scientific review.
