(CN) - Former Alaska state Rep. Bruce Weyhrauch can direct the state's Bar Association to evidence of attorney misconduct in the corruption case he faced, a federal judge ruled.
The Juneau Republican is one of a spate of Alaska politicians brought down by the FBI in 2007 for accepting bribes to lobby the state House on behalf of the VECO Corporation, an oil field services company.
Weyhrauch pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of working with unregistered lobbyists, and federal prosecutors dropped their felony case against him. The deal came amid charges that the prosecution had withheld vital evidence in several related corruption trials, including that of U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens.
Weyhrauch and his co-counsel filed a motion to forward evidence of such misconduct to the Alaska Bar Association. In a brief order signed Monday, U.S. District Judge John Sedwick granted the motion, writing that Weyhrauch had shown "good cause."
