Alaska Century Old Ash Cloud

This June 1912 photo provided by the U.S. Geological Survey shows ash drifts around Katmai village's then-new Russian Orthodox church after the eruption of Novarupta Volcano in Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska. While western U.S. states were suffering from hazy red skies from wildfires, Alaska was dealing with an air quality problem born a century ago.
