DALLAS (CN) - A plastic surgeon recommended that a patient's eyelids be sewn shut after he botched an operation injecting cortisone into her eyes, the patient claims in court.
Patricia deLarios, of Dallas, sued Dr. Sam T. Hamra and Mary Shiels Hospital in Dallas County Court.
DeLarios says she was operated on in August 2010 and that the surgery and follow-up care were "antiquated."
"Specifically, when defendants knew or should have known that plaintiff's surgical complications were beyond your expertise, you continued to inject cortisone directly into plaintiff's sclera thereby aggravating her chemosis and further damaging her corneas," the 4-page complaint states.
"When this failed, you the recommended that she undergo bilateral tarsorraphies, a procedure sewing her eyelids shut that is only performed as a last resort."
DeLarios says she had to seek additional corrective surgery in February 2011.
She seeks damages for medical care, medication and reconstructive surgery, and punitive damages for medical negligence, lack of informed consent and medical battery.
