Agency Wants to Lift Ban|on Bolivian Bigeye Tuna

WASHINGTON (CN) - The National Marine Fisheries Services plans to lift trade restrictions on Atlantic bigeye tuna imports from Bolivia and Georgia.

In 2003 and 2004, the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas, of which the U.S. is a member, adopted restrictions on Bolivian and Georgian bigeye tuna because vessels from the two nations were engaging in unauthorized fishing.

At its 2011 annual meeting, the international commission found that the two nations had taken steps to stop the unauthorized fishing, including deregistering ships engaged in illegal activity.
