Agency Seeks Lead-Based Paint Information

WASHINGTON (CN) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has issued advance notice of a proposed rule on renovation, repair and painting of public and commercial buildings. The agency wants to determine which activities cause lead-based paint hazards to develop certification, training and work practice requirements that would comply with the Toxic Substances Control Act, according to the notice.

Those involved with building construction, specialty trade contractors, real estate professionals, and government support departments may be affected by the proposal, the EPA noted.

The EPA seeks comments and information on the manufacture, sale and uses of lead-based paint after 1978, the use of lead-based paint on public and commercial buildings, work practices used in renovation, and dust generation and transportation from renovations.

Comments are due by April 1, and a public meeting is scheduled for June 26.
