Agency Confirms Tree|Beetle Quarantine Areas

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has confirmed quarantine areas for the Asian longhorned beetle, Emerald ash borer, Pine shoot beetle, affecting 13 states.

The agency added quarantine areas in Massachusetts and New York to limit infestation of Asian longhorned beetle. The agency added quarantine areas in Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin for the Emerald ash borer. The agency also added the entire state of Ohio and counties in Maine and Indiana to the list of areas quarantined for the pine shoot beetle.

The quarantine restricts interstate movement of articles made or cultivated from the types of trees on which the beetles live, in those areas.
