Agencies Propose Model Health Plan Disclosures

WASHINGTON (CN) – Three agencies have proposed regulations implementing health plan disclosure requirements under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.      The goal of the regulations is to help health plans and individuals better understand their health coverage and coverage options.     The agencies involved are the Employee Benefits Security Administration, Treasury’s Internal Revenue Service, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services of the Department of Health and Human Services.     The agencies also have proposed a template for the summary of benefits and coverage and a uniform glossary. It includes instructions, sample language, and a guide for coverage examples calculations.     The agencies request any public comments by Oct. 21, 2011.     Click the document icon for this regulation and others.
