AG Says Foreign Interference Had No Impact on 2018 Elections

Summarizing a classified report he sent to President Donald Trump, Acting U.S. Attorney General Matthew Whitaker said Monday there is no evidence that the 2018 midterm elections were affected by any foreign-driven activities or agents.

WASHINGTON (CN) - Summarizing a classified report he sent to President Donald Trump, Acting U.S. Attorney General Matthew Whitaker said Tuesday there is no evidence that the 2018 midterm elections were affected by any foreign-driven activities or agents.

“This finding was informed by a report prepared by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence ... and is consistent with what was indicated by the U.S. government after the 2018 elections,” Whitaker said in a press release.

The announcement from the Justice Department emphasizes that efforts to safeguard the 2020 elections are already underway, and that “the specific conclusions within the joint report must remain classified.”
