WASHINGTON (CN) - The Department of Agriculture added parts of Worcester County, Mass. and Clermont County, Ohio to its list of Asian longhorned beetle quarantine areas.
The department also rescinded quarantines imposed on villages of Bayshore, East Islip and Islip Terrace in Suffolk County, N.Y., finding that these areas have met the department's remediation standard.
The invasive beetle is credited with destroying vast swaths of North American forests by boring into trees, destroying their vascular tissues.
