Adult Adoption

A 66-year-old woman with significant developmental disabilities can be adopted even though she is unable to give her consent, New York’s high court ruled, finding that although statute “generally requires” consent of adoptees over the age of 14, courts can approve adoptions without the consent of an adult adoptee in “appropriate circumstances.”
