ACORN Sues Over Secret Videos

BALTIMORE (CN) - ACORN seeks $2 million from a pair of conservative activists who posed as a prostitute and a pimp and secretly recorded workers giving them tax advice on a brothel business. The videos were then posted on several Web sites.

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now says in its lawsuit filed in Baltimore Circuit Court that James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles violated Maryland's Wiretap Law by making the secret recordings in ACORN's Baltimore offices in July 2009 and posting them on Brietbart.com, biggovernment.com and youtube.com.

Plaintiffs Tonja Thompson and Shera Williams say they lost their jobs because of the recordings and have "suffered extreme emotional distress with attendant physical symptoms and injury to their reputations."

ACORN seeks $1 million for itself, and $500,000 each for Thompson and Williams.

ACORN helps homeowners in need of mortgage assistance. It is represented by Andrew Freeman with Brown Goldstein.
